Oleander Geant des Batailles, also known as Commandant Barthélémy. The flower color is deep fuchsia-red (crimson). The petals may have some lengthwise white streaking. The shrub is robust, fast-growing, and prone to lankiness. Not every branch is capable of supporting the large, heavy inflorescences, and they sag under the weight of the blossoms. It is a good idea to support the blooming branches with stakes.
Wilhelm Hufnagl was born in Austria and still resides there. He has been involved with photography his whole life; his favorite subjects are nature, landscapes, and flowers. For thirty years, he worked professionally as a food photographer for his own publishing firm (culinary journals and cookbooks), as well as for associated publishers and advertisers. Wilhelm Hufnagl is an expert on oleanders in Europe and the USA; he manages an "Oleander Garden" for diversity of cultivars and breeding of oleanders as a European Union-supported project in Austria.
