Description
Digital work from Oleander Ed Barr.
The oleander is the symbol of the will to survive and of hope.
After the atom bombs fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a newly-sprouting oleander plant imbued people with strength and hope for the future. Since then, the oleander has been the official flower of the City of Hiroshima.

After the devastating hurricane which destroyed the city of Galveston, Texas, in 1900, the oleander was one of the plants which survived and brought new life to the ruins of the city. Galveston became “The Oleander City” of the USA, and today this is one of the reasons that it draws tourists to the Gulf of Mexico in the vicinity of the metropolis Houston.
